New Workshops and Activities


Explorations is happy to announce a line-up of engaging activities and workshops that will be hosted at our new learning center at 6591 Somerled, Montreal, H4V 1T1 (Opening March 1st). These workshops will allow children from Grades 3 to 5 to take part in some dynamic learning experiences during their March break (from March 4th to March 8th).

  • Location: Explorations Learning Center, 6591 Somerled, Montreal
  • Dates: March 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 2019
  • Schedule: Morning Session 9:00 to 12:00, Afternoon Session 1:00 to 4:00, Full Day 8:30 to 5:30
  • Registration is Open

Each workshop is three hours long with a 15-minute break at the halfway point. The registration fee is $40 per workshop. Children registered for the full day ($90) will be supervised from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. All equipment and materials will be provided by Explorations.

Workshop Details

Video Game Design – Make a Side Scroller

In this workshop, you will learn how to create your very own side scrolling video game. Using Game Maker, you will explore the building blocks of video games while learning how to create games that are interesting and fun to play.

Participants will learn about Sprites, Objects, Variable, and Coordinates and use these various concepts to develop a game. They will also be exposed to game design concepts such as Rules, Physics and UI Design.

Science goes BOOM! – Reactions and Pressure

In this workshop, you will learn about different types of reactions, pressure and the states of matter. You will take science into your own hands as you follow the scientific method to overcome a series of challenges that will require all of your creativity.

Robotics with Swift – Mazes and Obstacles

Take your robotics skills to the next level as you learn to use the Swift programming language to overcome a series of challenges designed to test your creative problem-solving skills. Learn about Loops, Triggers, Events and Variables as you explore the endless possibilities of writing code.

Nutrition – Mythbusters!

In this workshop, you will learn about different types of reactions, pressure and the states of matter. You will take science into your own hands as you follow the scientific method to overcome a series of challenges that will require all of your creativity.

Movie Special Effects – Spells and Magic

Ever wonder what it would be like to be a powerful wizard that could teleport and cast spells like Harry Potter? Learn some Hollywood Magic create stunning visual effects using pro software. Learn about timing, keyframes, angles, lighting and so much more as we push the limits of what we can do in post-production.

Video Game Design – Role Playing Games

Unleash the storytelling power of RPGs as you learn about worldbuilding and game design by building your own Video Game. Challenge yourself to create interesting characters and worlds as you learn about key game elements such as gatekeepers, rooms, NPCs, quests, and inventory.

Design, Create, Build – Catapults and More

Are you the type of person that loves building and problem solving? Come work with us as we design solutions to exciting challenges. In this workshop, you will have to build a catapult that can launch a projectile at a given target.

Movie Special Effects – Superpowers

Do you love Super Hero movies? This is your chance to learn how Hollywood companies create special effects that blow away the audience. In this workshop, you will learn the basics of Adobe After Effects as we recreate Special Effects from popular movies using our own footage.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who are the Activity Leaders?

    At Explorations, we believe in connecting children with passionate, dynamic educators. Our March Break Workshops will continue this tradition. All of our leaders are certified teachers, highly-professional educators or industry experts.
  • Do I need to provide a lunch for my child?

    Yes, if your child is registered for the full day, we will provide supervision and activities from 8:30 to 5:30. We ask that he/she brings a NUT FREE lunch that will not require re-heating.
  • Is there supervision during lunch and breaks?

    Our program assistants will be on site to provide supervision during the lunch period and breaks.
  • What level of English does my child need to participate?

    Our teachers are trained to cater to many different levels of English, but many of the Activities are advanced and require at least basic conversational English to follow and participate.
  • Do I need to provide any additional material?

    No, Explorations will provide all of the material necessary for the Activities.
  • Where can I register?

    You can register directly on our Amilia registration page by following this link.
  • Can I register in person?

    Yes, we do accept same-day registration. Cash and Credit Card Payments are accepted on site.
  • Will the material covered in the Activities overlap with my child's school curriculum?

    It can happen that some of the material covered in Explorations Activities overlaps with school curriculum. However, our goal is to provide rich learning experiences that allow children to delve deeper into subjects that interest them. Our Leaders will know when they should challenge participants to think deeper about certain topics.
  • How many children will be in each Activity?

    In order to create rich, participative learning experiences, Explorations never allows more than 15 participants per Activity.
