We will awaken a sense of wonder and curiosity, as we explore inductive mathematical reasoning. We will start by ‘counting’ in different languages and reflect upon the similarities and contrasts associated with a conceptual structure for counting natural numbers (as expressed in diverse languages including the traditional Cree language).
Different types of numbers will be explored and with the use of inductive reasoning, methods will be developed to predict numbers in various numerical sequences.
Discussion will also identify number systems which are used by both humans and computers. Campers will understand and appreciate platonic solids and be encouraged to construct and interpret Pascal’s triangle. Flexagons, geometric and geodesic constructions will also be explored by engaging in “hands on activities”.
Based on the strengths and levels of curiosity of each of our campers, Matrices and Curve Sketching may also be explored.
